1959 Fender Strat

This fine piece of Fender history has just sold, sorry.

This late 1959 Strat was purchased new in 1960 from Long and McQuade in Toronto. It was played for several years in local Belleville Ontario band “The Pharoahs“. The owner then moved to Ottawa to play in a second band also called “The Pharoahs“. The extra switch was installed in the first few years of ownership. The guitar was gigged until 1965 when it was then shelved and remained in the family basement for 40 years where it was known as “The old guitar” until my client did some research.

As the pics suggest this guitar has been well loved and all of that wear is natural. It has all of its original parts except for the extra wiring, strap buttons and a missing screw in the bridge. It has some modifications to the routing of the tremelo and jack cavity, please enquire about these. It is also suspected to have been refretted at some stage. As you would expect from a classic vintage guitar of this era it feels and plays very nice. The original pickups have a nice clear bright tone and the neck feels like butter. It comes with the original case in fair condition and also the original manual in good condition.

1959 was the first year of both the rosewood fretboards and also 3 ply pick guards, these guitars are becoming hard to come by.
